Payment methods

Session payments are accepted by credit card and Interac e-Transfer. Please contact us to set up payment if you plan to use third-party/program funding.

Do you accept extended health benefits/health insurance?

Many health benefits (e.g., Blue Cross, Manulife) will reimburse you for services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), or Registered Social Worker (RSW). Check your benefits plan for details of your insurance coverage.

Please note that we do not offer direct billing at this time. If your insurance plan covers counselling services, please pay your counsellor for your sessions and submit your receipts to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

In an effort to make our services more accessible, we offer sliding scale rates for clients in need. We also offer lower-cost counselling sessions with supervised Student Counsellors who are working on completing their Masters degree in either Clinical Counselling or Clinical Social Work.

If cost is a barrier, please reach out to us.

How long is a counselling session?

A standard counselling session is 50 minutes. We also offer other session options depending on the type of session and the client’s needs (e.g. 30-min, 60-min, and 80-min sessions).

What is your cancellation policy?

We appreciate as much notice as possible should you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. This will allow other clients who need to see us to book in. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required if you wish to make changes to your appointment. If you miss an appointment, reschedule or cancel within 24 hours of the appointment, you will be charged the full cost of the scheduled session. This payment must be paid in full before you can schedule another appointment.

How should I determine the frequency and duration of my appointments?

Counselling therapy can be short-term, long-term or anywhere in between. The frequency and duration of counselling is influenced by a number of factors, including the reason for seeking counselling, your availability, your health, and your financial considerations. Together with your counsellor, you will assess your progress and collaboratively determine the frequency and duration of sessions and create a therapy plan that aligns with your needs.

Sensory needs

We make every effort to make you feel comfortable in counselling. If you would like the lighting adjusted, white noise added, or any other sensory adjustments, just let us know. You are free to stim, sit, stand, or walk around as you need during sessions.

What if I don’t feel ready/I’m not sure if it’s for me?

Initial feelings of discomfort and uncertainty around counselling are very common. It can take some time to get used to counselling conversations and build a trusting relationship with your counsellor. Below are some tips that our clients have found to be helpful before booking their first session and during the initial stages of counselling:

  • Book a free consultation;

  • Bring someone you trust to your appointment: you are welcome to attend with a parent, friend, sibling, partner, or support worker;

  • Take some time to think about and write down what you hope to discuss in counselling;

  • If you feel that therapy has not worked for you in the past, or had bad experiences in previous counselling relationships, bring up your concerns during the initial consultation

  • Block out some time before and after session for yourself;

  • Remember that you get to set the pace. Don’t hesitate to share your reservations or let your counsellor know if you do not feel ready to talk about certain topics just yet. Know that you can start with shorter or longer sessions.
